The literary work is generally considered to be like a little encyclopaedia, and useful to whomever has limited knowledge concerning the moon. It is also a work of reference, being a compilation of all sorts of facts set out in chronological order for easy reference and so as to be within the reach of the general public.

The first human  beings saw the creation of the cosmos in their own image, so that they dedicated various rites to it in order to ensure their own survival. Hence the cosmic religions. From these observations spring the methods of partitioning the passage of time, always linked with the production of food from farming – the marking of the seasons. Thence have arisen many sayings and various beliefs.

The moon influences living creatures and vegetation in a way that can be measured, and this is not only because it is responsible for the ocean tides. Medical studies regarding curves in metabolic activity, concerning incidents of suicide and the occurrence of criminal acts, as well as concerning the process of giving birth amongst all living creatures, show that these provide food for reflection but that they can be explained. There is no irrationality there! On the other hand, the rational and the unexplained phenomena contrast with each other in a symbolic dualism such as one encounters in the ancient civilizations. As for the Moon in relation to artistic creativity, that is a really long theme which has astounded many a famous human being and influenced the expression of his or her art.
